I made a datavisualisation about the amount of children fleeing in the world.
For the assignment I started with the data from Statistics Netherlands. The data I was going to use was about refugees. With this data I started designing an interactive tool with which a story is told. n the end I chose from the data to focus on children. This appealed to me very much and I noticed that many children travel alone, without parents. I found this very moving.
Each lego block stood for 10 children and each color was a different country. I have put this on a timeline. That way you could compare each country with each other and you could also compare the country itself with each year.
There is also a filter block where you can filter on a country. You see only that country on the timeline. Click on the link below to see the interactive visualization.
